This is a glossary of terms commonly heard when talking about ParaPara dancing and eurobeat.
- A-Melo (Aメロ)
- The first lyrical part of a eurobeat song, the second part of the typical Intro → A-Melo → B-Melo → Sabi → Intro progression.
- B-Melo (Bメロ)
- The second lyrical part of a eurobeat song, the third part of the typical Intro → A-Melo → B-Melo → Sabi → Intro progression.
- boom
- A period of time in which ParaPara was/is popular.
- C-Melo (Cメロ)
- A third lyrical part of a eurobeat song, not part of the typical progression.
- circle (サークル)
- A group of people who do ParaPara together.
- fire step
- A dance style done to old eurobeat and italo disco. Involves more foot movement and less hand movement than ParaPara.
- freestyle
- A part of a choreography where you make up your own moves.
- furi (振り)
- A choreography. Short for "furitsuke" (振付 or 振り付け).
- intro (イントロ)
- The part of a eurobeat song in which the synths are playing, the first and last part of the typical Intro → A-Melo → B-Melo → Sabi → Intro progression.
- koushuukai (講習会)
- A ParaPara lesson taught at a club event.
- manepara (真似パラ)
- "Faking it" when you don't actually know the routine to a song.
- maniac
- An original (unofficial) ParaPara routine, usually created by a circle.
- mishuuroku (未収録)
- A choreography not included in a video compilation.
- mystery circle
- A group of people dancing in a circle at a ParaPara event. Used mostly in Tokyo.
- oripara (オリパラ)
- An original (unofficial) ParaPara routine, usually created by an individual.
- otachidai (お立ち台)
- A raised stage in a club. Generally reserved for dancers who are well-known and/or know a lot of routines.
- paralist
- A person who dances ParaPara (or its variants).
- ParaPara (パラパラ)
- A dance style involving mostly hand movements, generally set to eurobeat music.
- saajin (サー人)
- A person or people in a circle. Abbreviation of サークル人.
- sabi (サビ)
- The chorus of a eurobeat song, the fourth part of the typical Intro → A-Melo → B-Melo → Sabi → Intro progression. Origin uncertain, but may come from "wasabi," in the sense that "even a little leaves a lasting impression." [1]
- saishin (最新)
- Recent choreography.
- TechPara (テクパラ)
- A variant of ParaPara danced to hyper techno or eurodance music.
- TraPara or ToraPara (トラパラ)
- A variant of ParaPara set to trance music.
- urapara (裏パラ)
- An alternate choreography to a song that already has an official routine.
- wangan (湾岸)
- Choreography that came from the clubs around Tokyo Bay around 1993.
- yatou (野党)
- Techpara choreography from maniac sources, such as Hi-Cross. Literally "opposition party."
- yogore (ヨゴレ)
- A variant of ParaPara set to dance pop music. Used mostly in Kansai. [2]
- yotou (与党)
- Techpara choreography from commercial or official club sources, such as Starfire or SEF. Literally "ruling party."
